Announcement of Update to LINE Transparency Report (January-June 2018)
2018.10.16
LINE Corporation has updated its "LINE Transparency Report" today. The "User Information Disclosure/Deletion Requests From Law Enforcement" section provides information about the number of user data requests we received from law enforcement, as well as the number of cases in which we disclosed information in response to such requests, for the period between January and June 2018.
The LINE Transparency Report has been issued regularly since the July-December 2016 report.

Like other internet service providers, LINE receives requests from law enforcement around the world to disclose information necessary for solving criminal cases. We do not cooperate with unilateral government activities to exploit information, such as eavesdropping or censorship, in any way. However, under exceptional circumstances where the LINE app was used in a murder, assault, fraud or other criminal activity, or when a bomb, murder, or kidnapping threat was made through the app, we comply with certain requests in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, while strictly adhering to our own internal regulations and procedures. As a communication infrastructure provider, it is LINE’s responsibility to cooperate in efforts to arrest suspects, alleviate damages, save human lives, and prevent crimes.
But at the same time, as has been widely debated overseas in recent years, excessive information disclosure requests from law enforcement to internet service providers may threaten user privacy. This is why it is essential for us to clarify our stance toward information disclosure requests from law enforcement and provide transparency in how often we receive and respond to such requests in order to provide a safe and secure environment for our users.
We will regularly update this report in order to provide our users with peace of mind.
