● Special rebate promotion for users to receive up to JPY 500 until end of 2018
* Available from Tuesday, December 11 for some Nihon Kotsu vehicles.
TOKYO – November 27, 2018 – LINE Pay Corporation announces its partnership with JapanTaxi Co., Ltd. ("JapanTaxi") in regards to the use of LINE Pay (http://line.me/pay), a mobile money transfer and payment service available through the LINE messaging app.
Starting December 10, users can pay taxi fares with LINE Pay in vehicles equipped with JapanTaxi's advertisement/payment tablet devices.
In realizing cashless payments in taxi vehicles, JapanTaxi, operator of JapanTaxi app that dispatches 70,000 cars nationwide, developed an advertisement tablet and a tablet with extended payment features. Both tablets support a variety of digital payment methods in addition to serving as an advertisement terminal.
These tablets are introduced in taxis in Hokkaido, Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka prefectures, while in Tokyo, a total of 5,500 Nihon Kotsu and Teito Taxi vehicles are equipped with these tablets.
JapanTaxi strives to reach 50,000 vehicles by 2020, where one in four taxis would be offering this service.
With LINE Pay joining hands with JapanTaxi, payment options on the JapanTaxi tablet will include LINE Pay, allowing customers to pay fares seamlessly with their smartphones, eliminating the need to take out their wallets.
From the LINE app, simply tap on the Wallet tab and tap Pay with My Code to display the QR/barcode. Scan the QR/barcode with the camera on the tablet device to complete the payment process.
LINE users can instantly register for LINE Pay from within the LINE app and start to use the service by agreeing to the LINE Pay Terms and Conditions of Use. After registering and adding funds (from a bank account, at a convenience store, or by other means) to their account balance, users simply need to use their smartphone to start making payments.
In addition to paying taxi fares with LINE Pay, users can connect LINE Pay to their bank account to send money to their LINE friends in the chat screen. This makes it simple and seamless to split the fare when sharing rides with multiple passengers.
LINE Pay achieved its goal to have smartphone payments accepted at one million payment locations in Japan within 2018. It continues to rapidly increase locations, including retailers and transportation among others, in its pursuit to play a significant role as payment infrastructure.
A special rebate promotion is also being offered to commemorate this partnership to support customers taking taxis more often during the busy year-end season.
