TOKYO – June 15, 2018 – LINE Pay Corporation, operator of the LINE Pay smartphone digital wallet service available through the LINE messaging app, introduces LINE Pay code payments today at "GATHERING TABLE PANTRY in Bakurocho," a research and development restaurant operated and managed by ROYAL HOLDINGS Co., Ltd. ("Royal Holdings").
The restaurant will also be implementing "Pay-by-yourself-at-the-table-and-go" systems starting July 15, 2018—the first trial of its kind for LINE Pay.
Royal Holdings is an operator of a diverse range of businesses, from restaurants including "Royal Host" and "Tempura Tendon Tenya" to hotels, contract food service, inflight catering, and food manufacturing. Meanwhile, GATHERING TABLE PANTRY in Bakurocho began operation in November 2017 as Royal Holdings' first R&D restaurant that promotes work style reforms while improving the Group's productivity at the same time. In the latest partnership with LINE Pay, the restaurant will implement LINE Pay code payment, enabling customers to pay their bill using a smartphone.
LINE Pay code payment is a cashless and walletless payment method that allows users to use their smartphone to make payments in one of two ways: by launching the LINE Pay code screen from the LINE app and have their displayed QR code or barcode scanned by a clerk; or scanning the store's code by themselves. Starting today, customers at GATHERING TABLE PANTRY in Bakurocho can simply need to call over their server and get him or her to scan their My Code to pay their bill.
Furthermore, the restaurant will be the first to implement LINE Pay's "Pay-by-yourself-at-the-table-and-go" payment option for the first time on July 15, 2018. With this new payment method, customers can settle their bill with LINE Pay by operating a smart tablet on their table. This new system not only enables customers to pay their bill with just their smartphone, but it also eliminates the step of customers having to wait for their server to bring their cheque when they are ready to pay and leave. The new payment option has been made possible using a system provided by Mt.SQUARE Co., Ltd.
LINE Pay will close the distance between people, money, and services by eliminating the current pain-points – time, effort, fees, and more – of circulating money. LINE Pay also aims to lead the mobile FinTech world in anticipation of a cashless, walletless society.
Using LINE Pay Code Payment
1) Tap the "支払い実行 (Make payment)" button displayed at the bottom of the smart tablet installed at your table
2) Tap "店員を呼び出す (Call server)"
3) Using your smartphone, access the "Wallet" tab in LINE, and tap "Pay with My Code" at the top
4) Enter your passcode (*) to display your code (* skipped if already entered when launching LINE Pay)
5) Show the code screen to your server and state that you will be making a payment
6) Have the server scan your code QR
7) Payment is completed; you will receive a confirmation message on your LINE app
