Adds Extra Layer of Security for All LINE Users with Customized Security Settings Starting from Hong Kong
Tokyo, Japan– April 16, 2015 – LINE, the world’s leading life platform with 181 million monthly active users globally, has added an additional layer of security with the 2-step authentication feature, aiming to protect LINE users against growing mobile security threats such as account theft and scams.
The new 2-step authentication feature allows users to customize the security level of the messenger by changing the settings for carry over, PIN, and secret questions. The feature launched on April 16 for the first time in Hong Kong. After April 23, Hong Kong users must choose either the Carry Over or Secret Question feature as a mandatory security measure to protect their account.
- Carry Over
– By enabling the Carry Over setting, users can prevent their accounts from being carried over to a new device with a different phone number, which helps protect the account from possible theft.
- PIN
– Users can set up a PIN to further strengthen the security of their LINE account. A PIN will be required when account access is attempted from other devices.
- Secret Questions
– As an additional measure to protect user accounts from unauthorized logins, secret questions can be set up. When carrying over an account, users will be asked to answer one of three questions that are configured beforehand.
LINE has been prioritizing user security protection and continues to provide necessary measures such as the introduction of PINs and sending security tips to users through the official LINE account. LINE promises to stay fully committed to providing a secure mobile platform that maintains high security standards.
