Communication will be Even More Intimate and Fun Between Friends and Groups

 

Tokyo, Japan – February 10, 2015 – LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced the global release of the Room Party feature for their avatar communication app LINE PLAY (free for Android an iPhone), which will let users chat in real time with specific friends or groups.

 

 

 

With LINE PLAY, users can create and dress up their own personal avatar and use it to communicate with other users. Aiming to provide a separate and larger range of communication from LINE, which specializes in facilitating communication among family and close friends (closed, real graph), LINE PLAY strives to offer a place where users can communicate and connect with others sharing the same interests as them. To this end, the Square feature was added in April of last year to give users a virtual space where they can chat with a large number of users at the same time, and last September saw the addition of Communities1 , a place where users can select their favorite theme and post images and comments relating to it. Through these additions and others, LINE PLAY has provided a wealth of options to enrich communication.

 

Since its release on November 21, 2012, the app has been lauded for providing an easy-to-use environment to interact with other users straight from any smartphone, and on December 27, 2014, the number of users worldwide exceeded 20 million, with close to 60% of them residing in countries such as Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United States. The 2014 Yearly App Revenue Rankings2  released by App Annie showed LINE PLAY‘s worldwide rank at number 3, exemplifying the unique global avatar communication culture it has created.

 

The newly added Room Party feature lets users invite the friends they’ve connected with in the app to their own room and chat with them in real-time. Up to 9 people can be invited to the same room, and conversations will be visible to everyone invited. Up until now, conversation with friends in LINE PLAY has been limited to 1-on-1 text-based chats, but with the addition of this new feature, users will be able to more easily share their interests with specific friends or groups, facilitating more intimate and exciting communication.

 

LINE PLAY will continue to add new features and improvements in order to enrich communication and expand its user base.
