・Additional camera and video capabilities added to latest version of LINE app, including shooting with filters and effects
・New video and photo features designed to enrich communication for users

TOKYO – August 16, 2017 – LINE Corporation unveiled LINE 7.9.0 today, the latest version of the LINE messaging app for iPhone and Android, which now includes an in-chat livestreaming feature called “Chat Live.” Chat Live allows users to livestream video to other participants in group chats or other multi-person chats, in groups as large as 200 people.

A livestream can be started by tapping the telephone icon at the top of the chat room followed by the LIVE button. The screen size is adjustable, and can be played on the top of the screen, full-screen, at 1/8 size and at other settings. There are a variety of uses for this feature, such as chatting with friends while livestreaming a sporting event or chatting with grandparents while showing them their grandchildren.

This update also brings the popular face recognition filter and effects functions from the B612 and Foodie camera apps to the LINE app's in-chat camera. Users will be able to use filters and effects to touch up their complexion and have fun manipulating their pictures and videos from within the chat, all without opening another camera app. There are currently seven filters and 50 effects ready for use, with more to come in the future. These filters and effects can also be used in Chat Live streams.

Users have a variety of ways to take pictures using three aspect ratios – 1:1, 3:4, and 9:16 – as well as the ability to make simple edits to videos, such as trimming length or removing the audio.

Furthermore, LINE has added the ability to display a minimized video or YouTube player from within the LINE app, to enjoy videos while chatting. (Note: This function is coming first to iPhone, with an Android release date still under review).

In addition to these new functions, LINE will continue to develop its messaging app, as we seek to provide users with an even richer communication experience.

(Note: Not all phone models are capable of supporting the LINE 7.9.0 features at this time).
