[Global] LINE Announces Revamp of LINE Account Transfer

2019.02.25 LINE App

● Easier, worry-free way for users to transfer their LINE accounts

TOKYO – February 25, 2019 – LINE Corporation ("LINE") has introduced a new process for transferring accounts*1 on the LINE messaging app today (https://line.me/en/).

*1 The new process will apply to version 9.2.0 and later of the LINE app.

At present, 79 million people are using the LINE messaging app *2 to communicate with family and friends in Japan. Correctly following the account transfer process is essential for users to be able to continue using their LINE account on a new device – be it because they have bought a replacement smartphone, or because their old phone has run into unexpected trouble. This latest update simplifies both the interface and the transfer process to provide users with an easier, stress-free way to transfer their LINE accounts. Additionally, LINE has simultaneously updated the steps to create a new LINE account so that users are required to register a password in addition to a phone number, which will help facilitate account transfers in the future. While the existing process can still be used to transfer accounts, the new method will eventually take its place.

*2 Monthly active users (MAU) in Japan

As with the current process, the new one will require users to have registered a valid phone number, email address, and password to their LINE account, and turn on the "Allow account transfer" setting shortly before transferring. No changes have been made to the types of data that can be transferred.

LINE values user feedback as it continues to update its services to provide the most convenient and secure service possible.
