Tokyo, Japan – July 2, 2014 – LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced the release of LINE Webtoon for Android. The service offers free comic content and was released in all countries except for Japan, Korea, and China. The service can also be used on web browsers by visiting http://m.webtoons.com
LINE Webtoon offers free comic content viewable on smartphone devices, without the need for specialized e-book readers. Support is offered for Android OS and web browsers. All the comics offered on the service have had their text size and panel layouts optimized for easy and stress-free viewing with smartphone devices.
The available volumes change daily with over 10 additions, and users can read as many volumes as they want for free. Comics can also be downloaded and viewed offline for a period of 30 days, enabling viewing while users are on the go or in environments with unreliable wireless networks. With the “Share” and “Comments” features, users can also post the titles they’ve read and their impressions on LINE, Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites, showing their favorite comics titles to their friends and creating unique opportunities for conversation that can only be offered by the integration of a web comic service with social networking.
Among the comics on offer in the service’s initial release is the popular Korean comic “Noblesse”, which has been at the forefront of the online comic world for 7 years running. Other offered comics include “Smile Brush”, which has been made into LINE stickers and maintains a strong fanbase in Asia, particularly Taiwan, as well as comics by up-and-coming artists from the west, such as “Blue Chair”. Along with these comics, the service offers a wide variety of other works that have achieved popularity on a global scale.
More new comics will be offered in the future, as well as support for even more languages. The service will also be released for the iPhone and iPad in the near future.
