The Popular High-Speed Sonic Series Makes its LINE GAME Debut
Tokyo, Japan – January 27, 2014 – LINE Corporation, owner and operator of the free call and messaging app LINE, today announced the release of Sonic Dash S, a running action game developed by Sega Networks Co., Ltd., and available for free download on the Android and iOS platforms.
The Sonic series has been developed by Sega Corporation, spawning a variety of characters and related media that have achieved worldwide popularity in the over 20 years since the release of the first game in 1991. LINE Sonic Dash S lets players control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and other popular characters from the game series while barreling through a variety of detailed and challenging 3D courses. At release the game will offer support for English and Japanese, but there are plans to release versions for many other languages, including Spanish, to expand the game’s global audience.
Players tap various parts of the screen to move their characters and dodge enemies and obstacles, collecting Orbs and running as far as they can to get the highest score. Players tap the left or right sides of the screen to change their route, tap the upper portion of the screen to jump, or tap the lower portion of the screen to unleash a devastating spin attack that will destroy any enemies in their path.
Collect the rings that appear throughout the course to fill the Fever Gauge and the character will enter Fever Mode, which grants invincibility for a short amount of time. If players run into an enemy while holding rings, they will still be able to continue their game but they will lose all of their rings.
The checkpoints scattered at fixed intervals throughout the stage will save players’ bonus points as well as the amount of rings they’re holding. The distance they run will be added to the Mileage Map, and bonus points will be awarded based on the cumulative distance traveled. After reaching the goal, players will be able to move to the next map.
Selectable characters include Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and other popular characters from the Sonic universe. There are also support characters called Chao that will add special abilities to the characters. Players can compete against their friends, receiving bonuses when they pass them on the Mileage Map, and also borrow their Chao, creating a fun way to play for competitive and cooperative players alike.
