【LINE】Users Exceed 150 Million Worldwide

LINE Corporation, owners and operators of the free calling and messaging app, “LINE”, announced that registered user numbers for the app have exceed 150 million worldwide on April 30.

LINE was released on June 23, 2011 as a group communications service available across multiple devices and network carriers. It achieved 100 million users worldwide on January 18, 2013, a mere 19 months after its release. On April 2, following a rapid surge in users since the latter part of 2012, user numbers in Spain exceeded 10 million; a first among all European countries. With this, LINE has expanded its growth strategy to include the Spanish-speaking South American region, along with Asia, where it has enjoyed steady growth. LINE now offers its services in 12 languages, including the new additions of Spanish, French and Portuguese, in response to the expansion of its user locations.

In February, LINE partnered with Nokia Corporation, providing the service to Nokia’s affordable smartphone family, “Asha”. This marked LINE’s official entrance into the Southeast Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and African markets; a large step in its expansion strategy.

Such efforts have further accelerated the app’s growth, enabling it to achieve 150 million registered users worldwide on April 30.

Furthermore, LINE has introduced a series of integrated apps and services to further its platformization efforts. As for its games platform, the combined download figure for all 16 games released by “LINE GAME” so far managed to exceed the 100 million mark on March 10. Since then, LINE GAME has further expanded its services to offer as many as 24 different games, and is striving to further surprise fans with many more new, innovative games in the future. As for the contents platform, LINE’s official camera app, “LINE camera”, also exceeded 30 million downloads worldwide on April 22, exhibiting the popularity of LINE’s communication-stimulating contents and services.

LINE aims to accelerate its expansion in foreign markets and further expand its user base, and to continue to improve usability and add new features in order to make the service an integral piece of infrastructure for users all around the world.
